Today is the Chinese new year. Everywhere in the street are red, red colour means happiness in China. Many families have gathered together and started to celebrate this important festival. The Chinese New Year is a time for family reunions, delicious food, and joyful celebrations.
In my family, we wake up early on the first day of the lunar calendar. We dress in traditional Chinese clothing, such as the cheongsam for women and the tang suit for men, to show respect for our culture. Then, we visit the local temple to pray for good luck and blessings for the new year.
After the temple visit, we return home and prepare a big feast for the whole family. Our table is filled with various traditional dishes, such as dumplings, fish, and niangao (sticky rice cake), which symbolize wealth and prosperity for the coming year. We sit together, enjoy the delicious food, and share stories and laughter.
During the Spring Festival, we also give red envelopes containing money to children and unmarried adults. This gesture is a symbol of good fortune and blessings for the new year. It brings excitement and happiness to the younger members of the family.
As the night falls, we gather around the TV and watch the Spring Festival Gala, a grand variety show broadcasted on national television. It is a tradition for many Chinese families to watch this program together, enjoying the performances and entertainment.
At midnight, when the new year arrives, we welcome it with fireworks and firecrackers. The loud noises and colorful lights in the sky create an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
The whole Spring Festival period lasts for about 15 days, during which we visit relatives and friends, exchange greetings and gifts, and continue to indulge in delicious food.
Overall, the Chinese New Year is a time of joy, reunion, and cultural heritage. It is a celebration that brings families together and allows us to appreciate our traditions and customs.
